The Festa de la Mar is an event that is organized biannually with the aim of spreading the heritage and maritime traditions of the Mediterranean, with the aim of preserving its legacy and with the perspective of facing it towards the future.
This year, the VI edition will take place in the Municipality of Calafell between 8 and 11 June 2023 and will host numerous activities aimed at all audiences such as cruises, theatrical performances, children's workshops, temporary exhibitions, gastronomic tastings and even a music festival.
In addition, the waters off the coast of Calafell and Vendrell will welcome the arrival of around 100 boats historical and traditional from Catalonia, the Valencian Country, the Balearic Islands, Rosselló, the islands of Sardinia and Corsica, Italy and Tunisia, in what will be the most important meeting that has ever taken place in Catalonia from ships of this class.
On the other hand, we cannot ignore the serious humanitarian and climate crisis that the Mediterranean Sea is currently suffering. For this reason, the VI Festa de la Mar will serve to make these problems visible and give a voice to those entities that work to deal with them. Likewise, the historical role of women in the maritime sector will be vindicated to strengthen the present and improve the future.
This is an event aimed at everyone, with activities aimed at the general public. There will also, logically, be spaces dedicated to a more specialized public and the values linked to cultural heritage and sustainability will be well present and will be the protagonists.
Calafell will welcome historic, classic and traditional boats.
It will be an international meeting to claim the Mediterranean Sea as a bridge of cultures and in a special way, traditional navigation as a historical legacy with the will to focus it towards a future of transformation, where the learnings of the past will have to serve as guide and source of inspiration for the course we take towards tomorrow. In short, a sea that builds bridges and not borders.
